Join us on December 6th for our annual meeting and a free showing of the documentary film “Wild Reverence: The Wild Steelhead’s Last Stand”! Doors will open at 6:30 for light refreshments, and at 7 we’ll have a brief (5-10 minute) slideshow highlighting Tri-State Steelheaders’ accomplishments in 2017, followed by the movie. As with last year, the meeting will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott at 550 W. Rose St. in Walla Walla.

The event will be from 12 to 4pm in the Young Ballroom at Whitman College’s Reid Campus Center. You can buy the following holiday gifts to support Tri-State Steelheaders (you get a card to give to the giftee stating what was purchased in their honor):

• $10 – Supplies for a gyotaku fish art lesson for one classroom
• $20 – New fishing pole to give away at kids’ fishing events

A don’t-miss opportunity! This fall, on Tuesday nights from October 3 to October 24, Tri-State Steelheaders will be offering a beginner-level fly fishing class for adults. The cost is only $25 for TSS members or $40 for non-members — contact Andrew Bassler at andrew@tristatesteelheaders.com to register before space fills up!

Tri-State Steelheaders and the Walla Walla District Corps of Engineers are hosting a Kids’ Fishing Day at Bennington Lake on June 11. Youth 14 and under will receive goodie bags that include fishing gear, an entry into the casting contest, and a hot dog and a soda.

Catchable (8-12 inches, ½ pound each) and Jumbo (14 inches or more, 1 ½ pounds each) rainbow trout have been stocked in the lake all spring by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, so the fishing should be good! Fishing rods will be available to loan to kids without their own gear or those who want to try fishing for the first time. The event is intended to be fun for the family, and an opportunity for kids to learn a new hobby. All participating kids will also be entered into a drawing for brand-new fishing poles.
